The Bobiverse series by Dennis E. Taylor follows Bob Johansson, a software engineer who dies and wakes up as an AI aboard a interstellar probe, then starts replicating himself across the galaxy. It’s genuinely funny science fiction that takes its physics seriously, and the audiobook format lets Ray Porter’s performance carry the whole absurdist, nerdy energy of the series in a way the page simply can’t replicate.

If you grew up loving hard sci-fi but wanted it less grim and more gleefully weird, this is your corner. Porter’s deadpan delivery of Bob arguing with himself, across multiple clones with increasingly distinct personalities, is one of the best narrator-series pairings in the genre.
