The second installment in the globally adored Bridgerton series, now a Netflix series by Shonda Rhimes, introduces us to Anthony’s journey.
The year 1814 is set to be another bustling season, but not, according to This Author, for Anthony Bridgerton, London’s most elusive bachelor, who has shown no signs of intending to wed. And honestly, why should he? When it comes to embodying the perfect rake, no one does it better.
Lady Whistledown’s Society Papers, April 1814
Anthony Bridgerton is in need of a wife. After spending his 20s in a hedonistic chase of pleasure (while ensuring the financial stability of his mother and seven younger siblings), he realizes it’s time he settled down and ensured the continuation of the Bridgerton lineage. Edwina Sheffield, the season’s most beautiful debutante, is also kind, innocent, and easily led - Anthony is confident she’ll make an entirely suitable wife and pledges to make her his.
The only hurdle in his path is Edwina’s elder sister, Kate. Kate is committed to doing everything she can to give her sister the opportunity to marry for love rather than convenience. And the roguish viscount is starting to think he may have met his match in Kate’s sharp wit and biting tongue. That is, until he makes the error of kissing her.
I'm listening to the audiobook versions of the Bridgerton books during my commute and I'm really enjoying them so far. Only a little way into book 2 (The Viscount Who Loved Me), but having a good time. I hope the show is as good, I'll be watching that when I'm done the books.
