The production is the reason to listen. Ricci gives Harker a low, tired steadiness that holds the middle of it, and the names around her are a serious spend for a three hour production. Rather than describing a rainy street, the thing just gives you a rainy street, and three hours moves quickly because nobody has to stop and set a scene. Listeners have been warm about it for exactly these reasons, with a lot of four and five star responses praising the performances and the pace.

The script is where it thins out, and the people who have been hard on it are not wrong. The dialogue leans on the shelf of phrases this genre keeps by the door. The two timelines are meant to build toward each other and mostly just alternate. The ending arrives without much force behind it. New Orleans is named more than it is used, which is a waste of the one setting that comes with atmosphere already attached. And the Stoker connection is thinner than the pitch suggests: the names come across, the characters behind them mostly do not.

That split in the reactions is worth understanding before you decide, because both sides are describing the same thing accurately. People who came for a three hour audio drama with a good cast got precisely that and enjoyed it. People who came for a story that holds together under pressure found a plot that goes soft when you lean on it, and at least one listener said outright that some scenes left them unsure what had just happened. Three hours later it tends to leave the building without you noticing.

Which makes it easy to judge for yourself.
