Bourbon and Secrets (Bourbon Boys 2)Audiobook

The single dad, the bourbon and the woman he ran out of town

Same town, same rule, and this time it is not a rumour the narrator can shrug off. He buried his wife along with too many secrets about the night she died, and he has spent the years since keeping his head down.

Life now is simple by design: two daughters to raise and good bourbon to make, in that order, and no room for anything else. Which is when Faye Calloway comes back to Fiasco, the woman he personally ran out of town, and she does not look remotely like the cop she trained to be.

She is also carrying more secrets than the one she once used to blackmail him. The whole town is watching the burlesque dancer on stage; he is watching the woman behind her, and he knows exactly how badly this can end.

The widower's book: smaller, angrier and about a family

Second volumes in a small-town series live or die on the brother they hand the microphone to, and this one gets the most complicated Foxx: the widower with two kids, the guilt, and a business that depends on him keeping his temper. The romance is slower and heavier than the first book, which is the right call.

Faye is a good counterpart precisely because she is not there to fix him. She comes back with her own agenda and her own history of being on the wrong side of this family, and the push and pull between them has more at stake than simple attraction. The girls are written with enough personality to matter without taking over the story.

Lee Samuels and Megan Wicks read the twelve hours and forty-seven minutes in duet, and the quieter register fits a book that spends more time on grief and the distillery than the first one did.

The complaints come from readers who are falling out of love with the series: there are reviews that call this volume worse than the first, and others that say the series is simply not for them after two attempts. It is a fair warning, because this one leans harder into family drama than into suspense.

I liked it better than the opening book. If you want a darker small-town romance from the same shelf, Cruel King is on the site.
