5 July 2026For a long time, the Harry Potter audiobooks lived on a short list of platforms. That changed on July 1, 2026. Pottermore Publishing expanded access to both the Stephen Fry and Jim Dale narrations across several new services, and Audiobooks.com is now one of them. All seven novels are available through your existing subscription credits or as individual purchases. The Hogwarts Library companion books are part of the catalog too.
The announcement came from both sides at once. Pottermore Publishing confirmed that the expansion covers English-speaking territories worldwide: Fry’s recordings become more widely accessible internationally, and Dale’s become more accessible to North American listeners. The same July 1 release also brought the series to Spotify, Kobo, and BookBeat.
Two narrators, two very different experiences
Stephen Fry — UK editions
Warmer, more sustained, built around atmosphere rather than character differentiation. Originally recorded in 1999 for UK listeners, available in the US on Audible since April 2024. Total runtime: approximately 125 hours across all seven books.
Jim Dale — US editions
More theatrical, wider range of character voices, higher energy throughout. The standard for American listeners since December 1999. Winner of a Grammy Award for Goblet of Fire. Total runtime: approximately 130 hours across all seven books.
People tend to be loyal to whichever version they grew up with. Both hold up on their own terms. If you have only heard one, the first book runs just over 8 hours in either version, which is a manageable way to compare.
All seven books, now on Audiobooks.com
Stephen Fry and Jim Dale narrations available for each titleWhat this means in practice
The Harry Potter audiobooks have a longer digital history than most people realize. They moved from physical formats to iTunes download in 2005, then landed on Audible in 2015 after years off streaming entirely. The series crossed one billion listening hours on Audible alone by 2022.
If you use Audiobooks.com as your primary service, you no longer need a separate subscription to access either narration. The full series is there, available by subscription credit or as individual purchases. The companion titles from the Hogwarts Library are included as well.
The free trial covers your first listen at no cost. Given that the complete series runs to roughly 125 hours per narrator, that is not a small amount of listening to discover.
