18 June 2026The Twisted Love series is coming.
But when, exactly?
Netflix signed the deal in January 2025. Since then, TikTok fancasts have multiplied and casting rumours won’t stop. Here’s what is actually confirmed.
What we actually know about the Netflix series
Ever since the announcement, rumours have been spreading across TikTok and BookTok forums. Fancasts are everywhere, some sites are dropping actor names, and Ana Huang‘s followers are dissecting every post she publishes. The problem is that nearly all of it is made up. The series is real, Netflix wrote the cheque, but the project has not left the development phase yet.
Here is what is confirmed, dated, and verifiable.
The rights deal — the only hard fact
On January 9, 2025, Variety reported that Netflix had acquired the adaptation rights to Twisted Love and its three sequels, Twisted Games, Twisted Hate, and Twisted Lies, for a seven-figure sum. Ana Huang confirmed the news the same day on Instagram.
At that point, no actor was attached to the project. No showrunner had been announced. Netflix did not comment.
This kind of deal is an option: Netflix pays to lock in the rights and start development, not to begin filming. The series has not been formally greenlit. It is still being evaluated.
What happened next: scripts, no casting
Why it’s taking this long
Looking at comparable productions puts the timeline in perspective.
Bridgerton took about two years from the initial deal to the release of season one. Virgin River moved faster, around fifteen months, but it was a simpler project with a well-oiled production pipeline. Tell Me Lies on Hulu, adapted from a similar bestselling novel, took thirty months from the start of development to its premiere.
Twisted Love is a more complex case for two reasons. Netflix is adapting four novels at once, which means deciding from day one how to structure the story across multiple seasons. And the BookTok pressure is enormous: fans have very specific expectations about the characters, and Netflix knows it. A bad casting choice can sink a series before it even airs. That slows everything down.
On projects like this, once the scripts are locked, the casting is official, and the greenlight is given, filming typically runs six to nine months. Post-production on a series of this scale adds another ten to fourteen months on top of that.
That is the most realistic release window for Twisted Love on Netflix. The optimistic scenario, assuming casting wraps quickly and filming starts in late 2026, points to late 2027. The more likely scenario, based on comparable productions, points to 2028.
