I dove into The Daddy's Girl already invested in Sara Cate's Salacious Legacy world, and this third book might just be my favorite. The taboo setup, a woman in love with her father's best friend and her own godfather, is handled with a surprising amount of heart beneath the steam, and the five-part narration gives this forbidden romance a lush, immersive feel that a single narrator simply could not match.
The premise could easily tip into melodrama, but Cate keeps it grounded by making both leads so clearly exhausted by their own feelings. Amelia is not a naive child; she is a woman who has outgrown a childhood crush only to discover the feeling refused to fade. Matis is not a predatory older man; he is a lonely fifty-three-year-old who has spent his whole career surrounding himself with intimacy and never allowing himself any.
The matchmaking premise is a clever engine. By agreeing to find partners for each other, the two of them are forced to sit through dates that can only ever end in comparison, and watching them frustrated, guilty, and increasingly desperate is genuinely funny before it turns genuinely hot. Cate lets the comedy breathe before the tension takes over.
The narration is a highlight. Sean Masters and Desiree Ketchum carry the central pair with real chemistry, while Brandon Francis, Samantha Brentmoor, and Aaron Shedlock round out the supporting cast so every scene has the layered feel of a full production. The alternating perspectives make the growing distance between what Amelia and Matis say and what they feel unmistakable.
It is not for every listener, and that is part of its appeal. The heat is explicit, the age gap is central to the premise rather than decoration, and the taboo is exactly what some listeners will find uncomfortable.
