Nothing is clean anymore, not the lies and not the feeling
Sasha and Kirill are no longer standing on opposite sides of the same secret. After the events that tore through the first book, trust has become a fragile thing, and in their world that is often the same as a weakness. Sasha still wants answers about her family, but every step closer to the truth pulls her deeper into the one man she should probably keep at a distance.
Kirill is not interested in half-measures. He knows how to survive a brutal system, how to stay in control, and how to weaponize silence when it matters most. But the closer Sasha gets to him, the more the rules start to shift, and the more dangerous it becomes to pretend that what they feel is only anger, suspicion, or revenge.
As the second book in the Monster Trilogy, this audiobook carries the same dark mafia atmosphere and military tension, but with sharper emotional stakes. Rina Kent keeps the pressure high, the loyalties unstable, and the ending built to leave nothing settled. Sebastian York and Brooke Daniels return to narrate the 8 hours and 20 minutes of this installment.

I liked this one more than the first book, mostly because it has less setup and more consequence. Once the series is past the initial reveal, the relationship between Sasha and Kirill gets messier in a way that actually feels earned.
There is still a lot of brutality here, and that won't work for everyone. But Kent is writing for readers who want obsession, distrust, and chemistry that keeps getting worse before it gets better. That is exactly what this book delivers. Sasha is still fighting for her own truth, and Kirill is still a man who thinks control can solve almost everything until it plainly cannot.
The emotional temperature is higher in this installment. The push and pull between them is sharper because the damage from book one is still active, not something the story politely ignores. I appreciated that. It makes their choices feel less like romance mechanics and more like people making bad decisions for understandable reasons.
The book also moves better in audio than I expected. Sebastian York has the kind of voice that makes Kirill sound untouchable without making him flat, and Brooke Daniels gives Sasha a quieter edge that works well in the more intimate scenes. The dual narration keeps the pacing taut, especially when the chapters start turning in on themselves emotionally.
This is still a book you need to read as part of the trilogy. It is not built to stand alone, and the ending makes that clear. If you are already in the series, though, this is the point where the monster finally starts showing more of its teeth.
